Safe Saturday Series

Safe Saturday Series

What It Is

Safe Saturdays is our signature monthly community initiative that transforms local schools, parks, gyms, and community spaces into welcoming environments where individuals and families can connect, learn and thrive. Each event features engaging activities for all ages including games, arts and crafts, wellness experiences, educational workshops, resource fairs, cultural celebrations and opportunities to connect with local organizations. More than a community event, Safe Saturdays serve as a gateway to ongoing programs, resources and wraparound support offered by MDI.

Why We Do It

Strong communities are built through consistent connection, access and opportunity. Safe Saturdays provide a safe, inclusive space where youth, families, adults and seniors can build relationships, discover valuable resources, and participate in experiences that promote physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. By bringing people together each month, we strengthen community ties while helping connect individuals to the support they need beyond the event.

Who It's For

Safe Saturday Series is designed for everyone. We welcome children, teens, young adults, parents, seniors and community members from all backgrounds. Whether someone comes to enjoy family activities, access community resources, participate in wellness programming, or simply connect with neighbors, every event is free, inclusive and created to support stronger, healthier communities across Chicago.

When It Happens

Monthly Saturday events are held at various community locations across the south side of Chicago.

MADE in the Community

MADE in the Community

What It Is

Made in the Community is our monthly service initiative that brings people together to clean, uplift and strengthen the neighborhoods we call home. Through hands-on projects like cleanups, beautification, food drives, clothing donations and resource distribution, we meet real needs and create lasting impact.

Why We Do It

We believe strong communities are built through service, connection and consistency. By showing up for our neighbors and addressing everyday needs, we build trust, inspire hope and create positive change that lasts beyond the day of service.

Who It's For

Made in the Community serves everyone. We support youth, families, seniors and individuals across Chicago neighborhoods by providing resources, support and opportunities that improve quality of life and strengthen our communities together.

When It Happens

Made in the Community happens one Saturday each month. Follow us on social media and check our events page for upcoming dates and locations.
